Jim is a Partner of WestSummit Capital, a leading global technology growthcapital firm. He has over 20 years of private equity and technology experience in enterprise software, internet, mobile communications and clean tech.

Prior to WestSummit, Jim was the Managing Director of Cagan McAfee Capital Partners (CMCP), a leading technology focused on PE firm based in Silicon Valley, with over $2B asset under management. At CMCP, he was responsible for the firm’s cross-border tech investments and leading business development activities in Asia Pacific area, and was instrumental in helping portfolio companies raising growth capital, formalizing effective business strategy and closing large M&A transactions. Previously, Jim ran cross-border VC/PE funds as Partner at China Fortune Capital Group and Ruijie Capital.

Prior to that, Jim was an entrepreneur who co-founded a series of startups in US and China, and achieved successful exits, including Turin Networks (sold to Dell for $750M), Salira (1st EPON equipment company, acquired by Hitachi), Esteem Technologies (Internet video blog company, acquired by Real), and Ruizhi (streaming video technology, acquired by Coship), etc. Jim was also a seasoned senior executive with experiences in both start-up and established international tech companies. Earlier, he worked with Advanced Fibre Communications (AFC) as President of Asia Pacific. He joined AFC at the early stage and grew its business in China over $100M. The company was sold to Tellabs for $1.9B.

  • BA in Physics and Master in Electrical Engineering from University of Waterloo, also attended undergraduate program at Tsinghua University of China
